Question 22. For CBS & HI students - Did you know of an affiliation between Casa by the Sea and High Impact? Please give specific examples if you did.
"I'm from Casa by the Sea, and fortunately High Impact had closed down right before I was sent there. I've heard horror stories of that place. That used to be the place they would send kids from CBS who wouldn't cooperate. I heard the stories from both girls and boys, and that's when I realized what exactly this facility is capable of doing to us kids, and the power that they had over our lives. That's when I realized I had to follow their order strictly. They meant business. I was still in fear, though, because of the things I would see and hear from R&R." - C.A., Casa by the Sea
"Yes, i was there when girls were sent their, one girl had a twin brother on the boys side of Casa that got out of High impact in two weeks, told his mother the horrible truth of sticking them in dog cages, giving girls 2 minutes to use the bathroom...to many horrible stories.HIS mom told the Authorities and they shut it down. I stated before, i watched 6 girls go there, and i watched ALL the girls walk through the huge gates of Casa covered in dirt in the same clothing they left to go there in. They had to run or walk 2,000 laps to graduate High Impact, and one girl that was sent had a bad ankle. I feel so bad for my friends that had to endure that horrid place." - J.C., Casa by the Sea
"All I know about High Impact is they used to threaten us with it all the time if we didn’t follow our program, or broke rules. They told us the most horrible things about High Impact, so they were aware of the abuse at High Impact and just didn’t care." - L.W., Cross Creek Manor
"We were told in Tranquility Bay that if we didn’t respond, we’d be sent to High Impact. (We did not know then that the program was closed) It was certainly told to be an affiliated school to us by the staff and used in frequent threats." - C.M., Tranquility Bay
"At CBS, there was always talk that if you were really a trouble maker, you would be sent off to High Impact. We had some kids return from High Impact to the CBS, and it was usually done in a white van, and the kids would skinny.. almost deprived skinny with an unhealthy skin tone when they arrived at CBS." - A.T., Casa by the Sea
"No. All I was told is that High Impact was close to Casa and was shut down to extreme abuse towards the students. They use to say that the staff had them in cages." - N.R., Casa by the Sea & Midwest Academy
"No I don’t know or didn’t know sorry." - C.L., Casa by the Sea
"When I first got to Casa, I was told if I act “badly” I would be punished with worksheet. If I act out more, I would be punished with R&R. If I act out of control, I would be sent to High Impact where you just walk laps all day long. We had some kids come from High Impact, and they were really messed up." - J.K., Casa by the Sea
"Yes, I knew of the affiliation between the two places. We would get threatened that it was where we would go if we didn't shape up. Words from our family reps, fathers and the administration." - G.A., Casa by the Sea
"Absolutely. As an upper level I was present when Chelsea Filer arrived back at the facility after her stay at High Impact. She was filthy and emaciated. She was wearing sandals that were duct-taped around her feet. I also escorted another student to Jade’s office to be interrogated about having to eat her own vomit while she was at High Impact. She confirmed that the event took place while Jade called her a liar. I vividly recall her saying she vomited up her dinner and the staff told her “Come lo.”, meaning “Eat it”." - Anon, Casa by the Sea
