Question 24. Do you know anyone else in your life, including your parents, who engaged in these same inappropriate/irresponsible behaviors and grew out of them without being sent to a program?
"Most of my friends experimented with drugs and are now quite successful." - Anon, Casa by the Sea
"Yea, I know plenty. I know some people who changed after being sent to juvi." - J.K., Casa by the Sea
"Yes, of course." - B.B., Ivy Ridge & Tranquility Bay
"Yes, both parents used drugs heavily in their youth. All three siblings acted out in one way or another. My sister was sent to live with her mother (my parents did not attend her high school graduation) for lying and acting out around age 15. My brother was sent to an outward bound program around age 15 for drinking. I was sent to Tranquility Bay at 17." - C.M., Tranquility Bay
"No. I am first generation born so I chose to act out more than what my parents ever did." - N.R., Casa by the Sea
"Both my parents grew out of them on their own. As well as Aunts, uncles and cousins!" - G.A., Casa by the Sea
"Yes, my mom experimented with some drugs at my age and also had me at the age of 16. She is now a very successful businesswoman. I don’t think bad choices are a life sentence; I think it’s a learning experience. That can be learned without the program with the right structure and support." - A.E., Casa by the Sea
"My parents are still engaging in them and did the entire time I was in the program. I have met many people that have gone through rough teenage years that are doing incredibly well and are very successful without any adjustment." - L.W., Cross Creek Manor
"Yes." - Anon, Casa by the Sea
"My mom was a heroin addict and a child abuser, but she has a nice living now so I guess her." - D.G., Casa by the Sea & Ivy Ridge
"Yes like I said not abnormal." - C.L., Casa by the Sea
"No one else in my family was sent to a program, regardless of their past behaviors, and they all seem to be functioning citizens of society. So regardless of what they went through, they're all alive and much more productive and happy than I have been in the following years since leaving the program. I will say that I know of family members who have struggled with addiction, and depression, and other mental illnesses. I can honestly say, though, that a program like Casa by the Sea is most definitely not beneficial to their health and recovery." - C.A., Casa by the Sea
